Seminar profile: Hardware Engineering SPICE®

Up to the moment, hardware development stands out of the focus of assessing the project capability to deliver product in time and quality. But the product IS based on physical HW and the System product cannot be assessed in vacuum.

HW SPICE® is a new process assessment model (PAM) developed in the intacs working group to be able to measure hardware product design and verification and also to connect to the production / prototyping in early phase.

No longer will be results in System integration process assessed without the connection to the physical product creation. No longer will samples for System testing appear from nowhere.

Product release will be assessed in full complexity same as risk management will finally include FMEA and other artifacts, up to now handled out of ASPICE framework.

Seminar content and duration can be customized by arrangement, intacs material for preparation to exam and also extra material for practical implementation will be shown.

1.       Training Objective

The training enables the participants to map their existing HW development processes to ASPICE environment, to map and connect the dots to the supporting processes and to provide an understanding, what is to be provided to system level and how to interact with the prototype production.

For the assessors and quality professionals, this extension of the ASPICE model allows them to rate integrated product development in a proper way. No longer are faults or missed opportunities from HW development addressed in later stage of system integration. No longer is HW product for release appears from nowhere.

With lots of interaction, exercises and practice-relevant exchange of experiences, solutions for typical process improvement and Automotive SPICE® topics will be discussed and developed.

We look forward to your feedback and will hand out a training certificate at the end.

2.       Content and schedule

Day 1:

  • Introduction and Key Concepts
    • It contains a very detailed mapping to ISO 26262:2018 (mostly, but not exclusively, to Part 5: Product )
    • Perspective of control device engineering
    • Focus on prototype production
  • HWE.1 Hardware Requirements Analysis
  • HWE.2 Hardware Design
  • Exercise
  • HWE.3 Verification against Hardware Design
  • HWE.4 Verification against Hardware Requirements
  • Semiconductor Perspective

Day 2:

  • HWE Work Products
  • SYS Processes –interpretation
    • Critical for integrated products to properly map the gaps, where they belong
  • Non ENG Processes – interpretation
    • Supporting and management Processes are covering the complete project anyway and that have to be rated even without HWE processes in scope. But with HWE rating is easier to understand.
  • Conclusion
  • Exam

The course will also address the following contents:

  • Extra material to intacs standard training materials
  • Feedback from the praxis

The training is for all interested parties, especially intacs assessors, HW engineers, and quality and process managers. Good ASPICE knowledge is expected.

1.       Added Value after the training

Participants will be able to apply HW SPICE in their project.

Certified intacs assessors qualify to interpret HW SPICE in assessment by successfully passing the exam.

2.       Why Knüvener Mackert?

This training is exclusively delivered by an experienced and certified intacs Certified Principal Assessor. He has many years of hands-on experience in process improvement, assessment delivery and in delivering training and workshops.

The trainer has extensive experience in transitioning to accepted processes in diverse and highly varied environments, e.g., small or large, distributed and/or multicultural developments.

Participants receive a printed copy of the world’s best SPICE booklet containing Automotive SPICE®, Agile SPICE, Automotive SPICE for Cybersecurity, Hardware Engineering SPICE, Mechanical Engineering SPICE and Assessment GUIDELINES derived from the VDA guidelines, among others.

3.       Training Details

This 2-day training is offered with and without exam, in-house and public, online or onsite.

Training times: 9:00-10:30, 10:45-12:15, 13:00-14:30 and for mostly stand-alone exercises 15:00-16:30

Exam is offered on the last day starting at 15:00.

4.       Exam

The exam is held in English. The regular duration of the exam is one hour. Examinees whose native language is not English receive some exam time.

Excerpt from the training material

Each participant receives one of the world’s best SPICE booklet.

Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and Cyber Security are critical aspects to be considered in developing these car components. To qualify as a supplier, OEMs require development processes compliant to capability level CL 2 or even CL 3 in Automotive SPICE®. In other words: to deliver software-driven components, you must be fit in ASPICE®.
